Reading minute

For my reading minute i have decided to read a passage from the novel The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. This is a story of four girls: Lena, Carmen, Bridget, and Tibby. They have been together their whole life. Before they were even born their parents were very close. Each girl has their own personality and reading this book you really get to know them and care about each character. They all have to face their share of problems, but the pants help all of them find themselves. The part i chose to read was the part talking about the pants and how they were going to pass them on to eachother and how long they each have them for. This shows how close the girls are to eachother and they want to stay in touch while each of them go off in their own adventures. I would recomend this book to anyone because its a good novel about friendship and staying close, together and apart.

Final Outside reading

For my outside reading i read an article on texting. the article was named Death by Texting. when you see tabloids you usually see celeberties texting and walking. when your multitasking, texting shouldnt be just one of the things you are doing along with other things, expecially driving. in july 2007, a 17 year old girl was driving with her friends and she drove right into a semi truck killing her and her four friends instantly. research showed that minutes before the crash she sent a text message. if she hadnt been texting while driving all of them could have been fine. this accident woke up the government and now is illegal in four states to text while driving. these states include Alaska, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Washington. there is also a bill going on to ban texting in New York, Oregon, California, and other states. Some people have had accidents while texting, but less severe than the 17 year old in New York. one girl was texting her boyfriend and got first-degree burns because she was boiling noodles on the stove. another was riding a horse and let go of the rigns to respond to a text and got back and neck injuries, also a 16 year old guy walked right into a telephone pole and received a concussion. so the message is dont text while driving or walking....if thats possible for some.

Outside reading 9

For my outside reading i read an afticle in a magazine. the article was 5 quick ways to be healthier. the first said to eat chocolate (dont grab a chocolate bar for dinner though!). when you crave some chocolate just eat a square or two of the dark kind because it is rich in flavonoids. flavonoids are antioxidants that fight cell-damaging molecules from pollution, pestecides, and smoke. the second was to get off the scale. reaserchers at the U of M said that girls who get on the scale and constantly rely on a number gain more than twice as much weight over 5 years, than girls who dont step on the scale. instead of looking at a specific number ask yourslef how you feel in your pants, if they feel a little tighter than usual, hit the gym. the third was snack at night. usually you hear that you shouldnt eat before bed time because youll gain weight. but if you havent eaten your right amount of calorie intake for the day, you can eat them any time, even at night. just eat something light like popcorn or berries and whipped cream. the fourth was to hit the snooze. sleep helps your immune system get stronger. studdies have shown that sleep deporvation decreases the feeling that makes you full. so less sleep can lead to eating more. the last one was to play video games. yea, they are a part of what makes many teens procrastinate but, they are also good for your body. schools around the country are making dance dance revolution part of the corriculum, it makes you move and get active. so if you are wanting to get healthy as a promise to yourself, it doesnt have to be horrible, little things count too. just remember to eat chocolate, dont constantly weigh yourslef, eat at night if youre hungry, sleep a little bit longer, and play video games. see? this could even be fun!

Heroes in a Box

For my project i am doing movie heroes who are like the main people in movies. they are heroes to us these days and almost everyone knows who they are.

Here is a list of the top 10 movie heroes:
1. ATTICUS FINCH (Gregory Peck) - in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (1962)
2. JAMES BOND (Sean Connery) - in DR. NO (1962)
3. INDIANA JONES (Harrison Ford) - in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981)
4. RICK BLAINE (Humphrey Bogart) - in CASABLANCA (1942)
5. OSKAR SCHINDLER (Liam Neeson) - in SCHINDLER'S LIST (1993)
6. T. E. LAWRENCE (Peter O'Toole) - in LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962)
7. WILL KANE (Gary Cooper) - in HIGH NOON (1952)
8. GEORGE BAILEY (James Stewart) - in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946)
9. MOSES (Charlton Heston) - in THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (1956)
10. MAHATMA GANDHI (Ben Kingsley) - in GANDHI (1982)
Atticus Finch is one of the main characters in To Kill A Moickingbird heres a picture of the book and his character in the film:

Atticus Finch was the father of Scout and Jem. he was a good father and always looked after his kids. because of this he is a hero.

"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do. " ~Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird, Chapter 11, spoken by the character Atticus
His quote is saying that he knows what makes a person couragous. He is a hero because he realizes who is an actual hero, they dont have to be a man with a gun.

Another hero is Indiana Jones. He saved many people, for that he is entiteled to being a hero. he had many battles and won them all easily.

Here is a clip of the famous theme song from Indiana Jones:

Indiana has a famous wip that saves him from a lot of trouble. Indiana Jones is so famous that people make their version of this song and make it their own, a parody. i have come across many weird videos but this was was very weird. i thought it was funny though.

Another hero that i came across was Robin Hood. There has been many versions of this movie. with different actors. And many know the movie Robin Hood: Men in Tights. if you dont, heres a clip of some of the funniest moment in the movie. also i recomend this movie!

Robin Hood is considered a hero because he has saved people and he is well known for his green outfit and hat with a red feather on it. He also is a kind person. I think that is why he is a hero.

CONCLUSION:
After studying movie heroes i found that to be a hero you must have the ablility to save someone, either physically or mentally. All of the charaters above share that quality. Atticus saves his children by being a good father daily. Also he saved Tom Robinson in his trial. He is a kind man and is well known by many.
Indiana Jones is definetally a hero because he saves lives, physically, and he saves the world from bad things and people. Because of this and that he is a good guy people call him a hero. Not many heroes in movies stick around either, and Indiana Jones has been in movies from 1981 to present day with his new movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull made this year. since he sticks to the job, is a nice guy, and saves lives, he is a hero.
Robin Hool is also a hero. A lot of people know who he is, even little kids. He is a jolly person that uses his bow and arrow to protect himself and others. Because of all of that he has a heroic quality about him.
In the end i realized you need 3 basic qualities to be a hero.
1. you must be a good person. people dont like bad guys.
2. you must be able to save people pysically or mentally.
3. you must be well known. when a lot of people know who you are then your publicity goes up and everyone recognizes you as a hero.

i hope you enjoyed my hero project!!!

Yet Another Outside Reading

I am coming to an end with the book Breaking Dawn and it crushes me. These books are truely amazing and i recomend the whole series to anyone. At this moment in the book a lot is happening; Bella is testing her sheild, Aro and Caius are trying to start a fight, Irina is dead, Garrett is saying an explination to the witnesses, and everyone is trying to restrain Kate and Tanya from killing Caius and Aro. I cant imagine how Renesmee is feeling right now because she is just a little girl and having to see all the violence and suffering. I am excited to see how it ends but i am also sad because i cant look foreward to another book in the series because is it all over, finito, done. But, next month the movie Twilight comes out. everyone who has read the books and fell in love with Edward's charm and personality will be there soaking it up. Count me in. =]

Breaking Dawn 3

Continuing to read this book has made me full of questions. My question that i had a while back is starting to make sense. After Alice left, she wrote down an address in one of Bella's books. Bella had no idea where this place was, and she was supposed to keep it a secret from Edward and anyone else. As i was reading this the past couple of days, she started to mention the name of a man named Jason Scott or J. the mystery address belonged to this man. He dealt with businesses like drugs or diamond stealing and Bella didn't know who this man was. she wasn't scared though because of her new strength and everything. when she met with J he was very nervous, like he knew who she was. when he explained that he knew Jasper (her brother in law) it started to make sense. this man also dealt with giving out IDs and birth certificates and drivers license etc. So she put the pieces together and thought about why Alice gave her this address. she put together that her and Edward might not be there to protect Renesmee, her daughter. so she had J make 2 birth certificates, 2 passports, and 1 drivers license. she had them made for Jacob and Renesmee. if in any way, Bella and Edward didn't get out alive in this fight, Jacob would take care of her. After Bella told J about the documents he told her to meet him at The Pacifico (a fancy restaurant) to settle their business transaction. I'm very excited to see what is going to happen next.

Eating Disorders

Did you know that only 1 out of 10 people with an eating disorder actually get help? Did you know that 50% of girls between the ages of 11 and 13 see themselves as fat? I didnt. There are many people in the world who suffer from an eating disorder. Men, women, girls, boys of any ethnicity. This article had the stories of 3 young girls who suffered from eating disorders. they are considered the highest mortality rate of mental diseases. The first was Kelly Stewart. She is now 22 years old and lives in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. She started her eating disorder at the age of 14 after her parent's divorce. Since her life spiraled out of control she thought that this she could actually handle. After it started getting worse she cried out for help but the doctors said she didn't look like anything was wrong and she was healthy. underneath she knew she had a problem. Finally after talking to her parents, she received the help she needed. she was diegnosed with EDNOS (Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified) its like an eating disorder but the patient doesnt fit the steriotype. after months in a rehabilitation center she got her old life back. The next girl was Latria Graham. She started her eating disorder because of her parents divorce also. Latria lived in South Carolina and started her obsession with her body at age 9. when she was 11 she hated the way she looked. So she started purging. one day when she saw blood she called a help hotline and got treatment. The last girl was Sarah Whitworth from Austin, Texas. she began counting colories and she started exercising too much. Everyone always told her how good she looked but underneath she knew there was something wrong. her wake up call happened when she was driving her 11 year old sister home and blecked out behind the wheel. The two girls were covered in blood. they were fine in the end, but this showed Sarah that she needed help. She went to a center that cost alot of money and the only way to pay for it was to empty her father's retirement acount. months later she went home and had herself back. all three of these girls wanted to do something for others with an eating disorder, so they went to schools and centers telling them about the devastating killer. These girls are strong and got over their disorders, but there are still many that are reaching our for help. If you know anyone with an eating disorder or are struggling with one yourself, dont wait, it could be the thing that takes them or yourself 6 feet under. Act, get help and save a life.

Outside reading

I read two articles in a magazine today that were very intersting. One was an interview with the cast from Twilight. Lori Berger (the interviewer) asked the characters if they were anything like their characters. Robert says that he was like his character Edward because he was poetic and laid back. Taylor said he was like his character because he was a regular high school boy. But he also said he was excited for the upcomming movies in the series because thats when Jacob, his character, becomes a warewolf. And Kellan who plays Emmett, said he was like his character becuase he is strong but is a teddy bear on the inside. Then Tori asked about their role in a vampire movie and if they liked it. And all of them said they were very excited. It was really fun reading this article on the upcoming movie coming out soon because im am so jazzed about the movie! The second article dealt with a gril named Melanie Caduhada from Burlington, New Jersey got scammed on the internet by Craigslist. All Melanie wanted was a place to say in London for a summer because she got the job of being an intern in the magazine Wonderland. She started talking to another girl named Joleen and became friends so she thought then she wired $600 over the internet and Joleen said that she had another offer that would wire all the money up front and Melanie thought that was fair so she wired the rest of the $2,100 and then her friend showed her an ad for Joleens appartment in Spain. So Melanie googled her and it said she was a fraud and that shes been scamming people. She never got her money back from her but she did end up getting an appartment in London eventually. So the moral of the story is research and be wise with your money.

Breaking Dawn 2

As i continue reading Breaking Dawn it makes you realize things about the characters like their habbits, thoughts, hopes and dreams. This book is wonderfully written and makes you want to read more. While i read the book the past couple days i learned more about the Cullen's problem; Them facing the Volturi in battle. You learn about each abilitly that each vampire holds. Edward: the power to read minds. Alice: the power to see the future. Jasper: the power to calm people. Bella has begun to see what her power was, to restrain herself and not be crazed from the smell of human blood. This part of the book reminds me of a war that went on in history because they had to strategize and make plans of how they were going to attack also they had to decide who was going to put thir lives in jeopardy.

Breaking Dawn :)

I am reading the book Breaking Dawn by: Stephenie Meyer right now. It is the 4th book of the Twilight series. These books are really good and captivate you, they make you feel like you are there or are seeing it in your head rather than reading it. I'm in the middle of it right now so if you're reading the book i wouldn't read my posts because it might give the book away. Just a warning. Edward said: "...she held her breath and ran away" (Meyer 440). This quote is significant because when Bella becomes a vampire she can resist human blood. When new vampires are born they can't control themselves and usually kill people. Bella was different. she could control what she did and could even be around humans. Usually it takes centuries of training to be able to do that. this shows that Bella had a natural gift and was careful. I love these books and recomend them to anyone who likes a good story!

A Civil Action

Our environment is special and we should treat it with respect. In A Civil Action it shows us how special it is. Also the people in our community are special to their families and everyone around them. When toxic waste is dumped into the water and familys start losing their children, it makes them realize how improtant the environment is. If the environment is healthy, so are its people. This film is telling us that we should learn to respect the earth because at the moment we aren't. So, since our environment keeps us safe we should treat it with respect.

Animal Dreams

My favorite quote from the book so far would have to be when Codi is talking about her dream of losing her eye sight and she realizes something. This is what she said : "And then while we all still waited i understood that the terror of my recurring dream was not about losing just vision, but the whole of myself, whatever that was. What you lose in blindness is the space around you, the place where you are, and without that you might not exist. You could be nowhere at all." I like this quote because it is so true and losing your eye sight is like losing everything around you and it is just a nice comparison to vision.
My favorite character so far is Loyd. I like him so much because he is nice to Codi when she is mean to him and he is patient. He also is charming by the way he talks to Codi and is nice with his family. He might get annoying to some people because he is too perfect, but i like that about him, that he seems like a "bad boy" but is really compassionate on the inside.
My favorite scene so far from the book is when Hallie writes the letter to Codi telling her that she complains too much and she is dreaming what she wants to do instead of living it. And she tells her that there are other problems that are actually real like the eight year old boy dying. That was a real problem and Codi is going on and on about how her life sucks when actually if she really wanted to she could turn things around. Also this part was a turning point for Codi because it made her realize that she can belong anywhere as long as she wants to and that she can live her dreams.

Something I Read Recently

I just read my chemistry book because i had homework on density, molecules and atoms. My thoughts on the reading was interesting and boring at the same time. When you are forced to read something it makes it even worse than it already was. I have no idea if you know what i mean but that's how it is for me.

My Favorite Book

I like a lot of books because i enjoy reading. If i had to choose one i would choose Eclipse from the series Twilight. Stephenie Meyer is a great author because when she writes she describes the scene so well that it is almost like you are actually there. These books are about vampires and when a girl falls in love with one. Even if you do not like stories about mysical creatures or vampires or anything like that you should still check it out because it is an amazing book and paints the picture in your head. For more information on the book go to this link .
